10 Must Watch Movies at the 9th Jagran Film Festival

 

 

The 9th Jagran Film Festival is all set to connect great cinema with nationwide audience with some of the most credible movies lined up at the festival this year.

While all these films are best in their respective genres, the festival has shortlisted the top 10 highly recommended films to look forward to:

 

3 IDIOTAS: The 9th edition of Jagran Film Festival opens with 3 Idiotas, the Mexican remake of the Aamir Khan starrer blockbuster 3 Idiots. The comedy drama is directed by Carlos Bolada and will bring back some nostalgic memories.It will be worthwhile watching the characters play the Mexican version of the Indian blockbuster.

ASK THE SEXPERT: A documentary film about a 94 year old sex advice columnist gains who popularity against the backdrop of a ban on comprehensive sex-education in schools in several Indian states.

S DURGA: A Malayalam film based on the patriarchal society of Kerala, the story  is about  Two small-time gangsters who pick up a couple on the run, leading to a long, claustrophobic road trip. The film directed by Sanal Kumar Sasidharan, was screened at multiple international film festivals and won many awards internationally.

TURUP: A film based on Chess which is a popular pastime in this neighbourhood, with roadside games bringing together men, to challenge each other in friendly and sometimes unfriendly matches. But for some, the pawns include morality and religion causing tensions to erupt when a tournament gets underway. Against this backdrop, a domestic worker with a secret hobby, a former journalist struggling with married life and a young woman in love, find themselves pushing boundaries and challenging the rules of the game.

VILLAGE ROCKSTARS: A film based on a North East Indian village girl who weaves her dream of starting her own rock band. The film was premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival 2017 and was screened at many International film festivals. The film also went on to win a National award.

AN INSIGNIFCANT MAN: A documentary based on Arvind Kejriwal, the head of the Common Man’s Party, confronts the status quo of corruption in India politics. The film has been critically acclaimed internationally.

EE MA YAU: A Malayalam film on the story of the sudden death of a man throws a family into turmoil as they frantically scramble to plan his funeral.

BEING BHAIJAAN: A film based on two super fans of Salman Khan and their near-religious devotion towards the Bollywood Superstar. The directors Shabani Hassanwalia and Samreen Farooqui throw light on the masculinity and influence of film stars in India through this fan based film.

BUCKET LIST: The Marathi comedy-drama is based on the story of a woman trapped in the confines of her own choices, Bucket List chronicles the life of a 40-year-old housewife, Madhura Sane, who takes off on a journey to self-discovery when she stumbles upon a choice that could change her life forever.

 

TU HAI MERA SUNDAY: A film that is about a group of five friends finds it hard to play football in the busy and overpopulated Mumbai city after a local politician bans to play any kind of sport on the beach.

The 2018 edition of the Jagran Film Festival that will connect 18 cities and showcase over 200 films will commence in Delhi and tour to other Indian cities like Kanpur, Lucknow, Allahabad, Varanasi, Patna, Dehradun, Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Bhopal, Indore, Gorakhpur, Agra, Ludhiana, Hissar, Meerut and Raipur before concluding in Mumbai in September.
