Sudhir Mishra’s Film Daas Dev’s Trailer recently launched by 20 Top Hindi Film Directors

For the very first time in the film industry, a film’s trailer was launched in the most unique way that might be one of those conversations that enters our history. Filmmaker Sudhir Mishra’s next Daas Dev’s trailer was launched by 20 top filmmakers of Hindi film industry in Mumbai on Wednesday. This launch was all about love, love of all the filmmakers for Sudhir Mishra and his craft that brought together such talent under one roof. Standing tall with these stalwarts was the cast of the film, actors Rahul Bhat, Richa Chadha, Aditi Rao Hydari and Dalip Tahil.

The afternoon of the trailer launch began with humble gesture of Sudhir Mishra, requesting all the guests to stand up in silence in the memory of filmmaker Late Mr. Kundan Shah. He truly missed him on the occasion. Mishra then called the ace filmmakers of Bollywood – Saeed Mirza, Rahul Ravel, Ketan Mehta, Prakash Jha, Satish Kaushik, Pankaj Parashar, Vishal Bhardwaj, Imtiaz Ali, Nikhil Advani, Umesh Shukla, Victor Acharya, Kunal Kohli, Anubhav Sinha, Abhishek Kapoor, Mudassar Aziz, Ruchi Narain, Avinash Das, Ashoke Pandit, Ashwini Choudhary, and Ajay Bahl on stage. It was interesting to see the top-notch directors talk about their long association with critically acclaimed film maker Sudhir Mishra over the years. They all spoke about how they find each other inspirational in their own form. One common thing everyone agreed on was that Sudhir is a very different kind of film maker, he twists and turns a simple thought into something very interesting and they love this about him and his films.

 

Joining this gang of talent on stage was the cast of the film Rahul Bhat, Richa Chadha, Aditi Rao Hydari and Dalip Tahil along with Producer Sanjeev Kumar of Saptarishi Cinevision and Presenter Gaurav Sharma of Storm Pictures.

Sudhir Mishra said, “I acknowledge the fact that the three characters are Sarat Babu’s (Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay). However, when we started writing this film, somehow Shakespeare made his way in my mind and the story took a different turn. Also there is political angle in the film which brings Paro out of the haveli, Chandramukhi became a political fixer who is a game changer, and it is Dev’s reverse journey where he is coming out of his addition and taking control of his life. This is the plot of my film and a glimpse of that can be seen in the trailer.”

Rahul Bhat said, “23rd March, people will see the journey from Das to Dev, with the trailer out today there is a general excitement within the team and I am looking forward to see how it all unfolds.”

Richa Chadha said, “I said it before and I’ll say it again. All actors should work with Sudhir Mishra at least once in their life. I always like to experiment with my work be at Gangs of Wasseypur or Fukrey and the resulting success of both has showed me that risks do pay off. This is also a very risky portrayal because this role has been performed by greats in the past. I am bringing my own fresh perspective on to this; she is a truly empowered character. She is not going sulk after Dev and her split. I love this Paro. She is flawed and human, but you root for her. I am excited the world will see different shades of my work and Paro’s life and the first step to this journey is today, as our trailer launches for all to see.”
Aditi Rao Hydari said, “Each time that I have worked with Sudhir Mishra, he has taken me on a unique journey. In Daas Dev, Chandni stands tall in a world infested by every hue of grey. She stays true to her love till the end but never loses sight of her individuality. It’s an important and a relevant film which will entertain, enthral and take the audiences through a turbulent but satisfying journey and I’m happy that today the trailer comes out for all to get a glimpse of Daas Dev’s world.”
Saurbh Shukla said, “Daas Dev is one of the very important film of my career. Superbly nuanced and layered. Blessed to have worked with a genius director like Sudhir Mishra and a fabulous cast.”

 

Producer, Sanjeev Kumar (Saptarishi Cinevision) said, “This is the day I have been so eagerly looking for. Extreme amount of hard work and passion has gone behind the film and i hope people like the end product.”
Presenter, Gaurav Sharma (Storm Pictures) said, “Daas Dev steps out with its first showcase trailer today and we at Storm Pictures are most excited. From the start we have believed in the film and are thrilled that it has started its journey towards the marquee.”

The film stars Richa Chadha as Paro, Aditi Rao Hydari as Chandni and Rahul Bhat as Dev. The film features power packed performances from Saurbh Shukla who plays a pivotal role, Vineet Singh and Vipin Sharma. Anurag Kashyap will be seen in a guest appearance in the film and. Directed by Sudhir Mishra, presented by Storm Pictures and produced by Saptarishi Cinevision. Daas Dev is set to release on 23rd March 2018.

The film follows a path contrary to the plot of the classic novel Devdas. But is a fiercely political film that talks about the protagonist’s addiction. The movie’s premise is novel in a way that it is a reverse story of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s Devdas dipped in Shakespearean influences. If Devdas was a journey from a noble person to a ‘Das’, this is a journey from ‘Das’, a person who is a slave to his addictions and to the dynastic ambitions of his family to ‘Dev’. Set against the backdrop of Uttar Pradesh, ‘Daas Dev’ is a film about power, love and addiction.
