An overview:

English Vinglish

In one of the most understated performances of her career, the late Sridevi essays Shashi Godbole, a repressed mother and wife who is mocked by her daughter and husband for her lack of fluency in English. A personal breakthrough comes when she travels alone to New York for her niece’s wedding and enrols herself in a conversational English course. She soon regains the confidence that had been undermined, makes new friends, and takes her family by surprise by giving a toast in perfect English. The film reminds us to value our loved ones and not demean them for superficial reasons. Directed by Gauri Shinde, it also stars Adil Hussain, Mehdi Nebbou and Sujata Kumar.

Watch it on Jio Cinema.

Sui Dhaaga: Made in India

This gem of a film is not just about a young couple struggling to create a life of their own in a stifling joint family but also about the grit and talent of unsung Indians. The film follows the travails and triumphs of Mauji (Varun Dhawan) and Mamta (Anushka Sharma) who are determined to start their own clothing business despite financial challenges and familial pressure. Their steadfast devotion to each other and their dream inspires us to also never give up on what gives meaning and purpose to our lives. Directed by Sharat Katariya, the film also stars Raghubir Yadav, Yamini Das, Manukriti Pahwa and Namit Das.

Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani

This cracker of a film packs in romance, and family politics along with a delightful commentary on gender and cultural differences. When a spoilt, rich, Punjabi scion of a mithai empire falls for a firebrand Bengali journalist, their families are unsure if a union between the two is possible. They then decide to live with each other’s families for three months and what follows is both eye-opening and entertaining. The message the film delivers in a lighthearted manner is that tradition must learn to evolve and keep pace with changing times. Directed by Karan Johar, it stars Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Shabana Azmi, Dharmendra and Jaya Bhaduri.

Watch it on Amazon Prime.

Piya Behrupiya

This exuberant musical sets Shakespeare’s classic comedy ‘Twelfth Night’ to foot-tapping fusion music and takes the story forward via intricately choreographed sequences. The love story involving Duke Orsino, Countess Olivia, Viola, and Cesario who is in fact Viola in a man’s disguise is a total laugh riot. This breathtaking spectacle is directed for stage by Atul Kumar and filmed by Swapna Waghmare Joshi. It stars Geetanjali Kulkarni, Amitosh Nagpal, Sagar Deshmukh, Mansi Multani, Mantra Mugdh, Gagan Riar, Neha Saraf, Trupti Khamkar and Saurabh Nayar.
Watch it on 1st November on Airtel Theatre, Dish TV Rangmanch Active, and D2h Rangmanch Active.
