The story of the first Indian Air Force woman pilot who was part of the 1999 Kargil War is ready-made movie material and a great real story of courage. Janhvi Kapoor played the lead role as Gunjan Saxena.

Though critics have been constantly criticising the film over its wrong projection on Air Force officer facing constant discrimination only being a woman is something not accepted easily by audience. In addition to Jahnvi Other star casts of this film are Pankaj Tripathi, Vineet Kumar Singh, Angad Bedi, Manav Vij. The movie was directed by Sharan Sharma. Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl will premiere on Netflix on August 12.

The Lucknow born first women IAF pilot and winner of Shaurya Chakra Gunjan Saxena, played by Janhvi Kapoor. is sky struck from an early age, fighting for a window seat with her older brother (Bedi) during a flight, pulling away from the conventional route of good girls getting a degree and getting married, and being buoyed by a supportive father (Tripathi), in her determination to become a pilot?

Flight Lieutenant Gunjan Saxena ( is an Indian Air Force officer and former helicopter pilot. She joined the IAF in 1994, is a 1999 Kargil War veteran and the first woman Shaurya Chakra awardee.

Gunjan Saxena, who retired as Squadron Leader in 2004 as the permanent commission was not available at the time, was on board with the creation of her reel version. So authenticity, whether it is the technical stuff Gunjan has to learn or the military terminology she has to master when she gets to the Udhampur airbase, just ahead of the Kargil ‘war’ breaking out, is not so much an issue. The film was always going to be judged on whether Kapoor is able to carry off the author-backed role, and whether the film soars.

The film was scheduled to release theatrically on 13 March 2020. However, that release postponed to 24 April 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. But finally, it will be releasing on 12th August 2020.
