Kangana Ranaut’s take on patriotism – Love of all kinds should be accepted as it is

Manikarnika

Kangana Ranaut is one of the few actresses who are known always to say her mind. It was no different at the Music launch of Manikarnika, when she was asked about patriotism. Essaying the role of the Indian warrior who laid her life for the freedom struggle was not an easy job and talking about the same, Kangana says, “I play a very small part in the overall part of the movies. There were so many veterans that I was working with during the making of the movie. For example, I got to learn so much from Prasoon Sir’s [Prasoon Joshi] words. People usually use words like chest thumping jingoism is a demeaning manner but on are sets when we were using such words, whether it was Prasoon Sir or Vijender Sir, they would stand up and say why not. Love of all kinds should be accepted as it is. One should not be made to feel ashamed for it. When flags of all colours and types are being accepted and loved, then why not our tricolour?”

Talking further on, forced patriotism, the national award winning actresses said, “You can internalise it but it will never manifest into something concrete, into a beautiful relationship and nothing will come out of it. It will only be inside of you. Constitution is a promise that we all have made with each other and with the motherland. It is not a gift that has fallen from the heaven. If we add another piece of land into this land, we make a promise with even those set to people. That promise needs to be owned and shown and not just internalise it.”

Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi is a biopic on Rani Lakshmibai and it stars Kangana Ranaut, it the titular role of the warrior queen. Ankita Lokhande, Jisshu Sengupta, Atul Kulkarni and Danny Denzongpa also play important roles in this period drama. The film has been directed by Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi (Krish) and Kangana Ranaut.

The music of Manikarnika is composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and it was launched on 9 January with Kangana, Ankita, Prasoon Joshi and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy attending the event.
