OMG MASSIVE congratulations Shaunak Sen and Team on winning the L’Oeil d’Or –the Golden Eye–for Best Documentary at the Festival de Cannes for All That Breathes! Sen accepts the prize; that’s Agnieszka Holland, Golden Eye Jury member (left, in black) and film’s producer Aman Mann (right, in blue). With Saim Sadiq’s #Joyland (Pakistan) winning the Jury Prize in Un Certain Regard and Sen’s Best Documentary, it’s a major celebration for #SouthAsianCinema! Payal Kapadia had won the L’oeil d’Or just last year for A Night of Knowing Nothing.

The jury statement for All That Breathes said: “L’oeil d’Or goes to a film that, in a world of destruction, reminds us that every life matters, and every small action matters. You can grab your camera, you can save a bird, you can hunt for some moments of stealing beauty, it matters. It’s an inspirational journey in observation of three Don Quijotes who may not save the whole world, but do save their world.”

The film focuses on two brothers Nadeem Shehzad and Muhammad Saud, and their colleague Salik Rehman, who are devoted to healing injured kites in Delhi.

India’s double win back to back for best documentary at one of the top festivals in the world thrillingly puts the spotlight back on Indian documentaries. There’s such a rich range of Indian cinema #beyondbollywood! This is a very big moment for #Indiancinema and #SouthAsianCinema.
